Making creations using opaque glass frit can be fun and exciting. One of the favorite things for many people to make is fused opaque glass frit paintings. If this sounds like a project you would like to take on, here are some tips and suggestions to keep in mind.

The first thing you should do is to gather your supplies. Your supplies will include a kiln for firing your finished project, fusible glass, opaque glass frits and glass powders. You don’t want to get halfway through your project and then find out that you don’t have everything you need. Make sure the supplies are readily available so you can grab them whenever you need them.

Once you have all of your supplies, make a sketch of the design that you want to create. Sketch the design on paper because you can place it  beneath the glass and trace over it. You should also know the colors that you want to use for your design so you can have them on hand. Next, cut a square piece of glass that will serve as your base for your project. You can use a permanent market to trace your design onto the glass. After tracing your design, flip the piece of glass over so the design is facing down. This will make your design backwards so you should keep this in mind when creating your sketch.

Your next step is to cover the lines of the permanent marker with black powder. You can use a line sifter to go over your design’s outline. You can make your outline more even by putting some powder in the middle of the glass piece and then use a shaping tool or other device to form the outline around your design. When you are done, the marks from the permanent marker should not be visible.

Once you have created your outline, you can begin adding your opaque glass frits and powders to complete the overall design. This will be the last step before firing up your project in the kiln.
